Laser vs. LED

Lasers focus. LEDs scatter.

The difference is physics. Laser diodes emit coherent, collimated light that holds its intensity from source to skin. LED light spreads across a wide angle and dilutes before it arrives. On target, that is up to 6× more intensity from the same session.

Laser — focused beam

Coherent light lands exactly where it's aimed, at full intensity.

LED — scattered light

Diffuse rays spread wide, diluting the dose before it arrives.

more on-target intensity than scattered LED light

The science, at depth

Where each wavelength works.

Penetration depth is a function of wavelength — and it determines which structures the light can reach.

WavelengthApprox. depthReachesStudied for
460 nmBlue~0.5–1 mmEpidermisAbsorbed at the surface, where it's studied for blemish-prone skin. Drives the Clarify mode.
665 nmRed~1–2 mmUpper dermisThe most-studied wavelength in skin research — tone, texture, and fine lines.
850 nmNear-infrared~2–3 mmDermisReaches the layer where fibroblasts produce collagen and elastin.
1064 nmNear-infrared~3–5 mmDeep dermis & belowThe deepest-reaching wavelength here — rare outside professional equipment.

Depths are approximate ranges reported in published optical penetration studies; they vary with skin type and site.

01

Absorption

Red and near-infrared photons are absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase — an enzyme in the mitochondria, the part of the cell that produces energy.

02

Cellular energy

That absorption is associated with increased production of ATP, the molecule cells use to power their own repair processes.

03

The response

Over weeks of consistent exposure, studies report support for collagen and elastin production, microcirculation, and visible improvements in tone and texture.

Clinical results

The 30-day results.

In a 44-person consumer study, participants used Lumière for ten minutes a day, for 30 days, with no other changes to their routine. These are the results they reported.

Wrinkle Reduction

noticed a visible reduction in fine lines

88%

Firmness & Elasticity

saw firmer and more lifted skin

95%

Edge to edge

Your whole face. No dead zones.

Flat panels and rigid shells leave gaps — around the nose, along the jawline, at the temples — where light never lands at the right distance. Lumière's silicone shell is curved in three dimensions to follow the actual topography of your face, holding every one of its 72 light sources at an even working distance.

Forehead, cheeks, nose, jaw, chin: the same dose, everywhere it should reach.

Skin longevity

Longevity is a daily practice.

From the mid-twenties, skin loses roughly one percent of its collagen each year.* The longevity approach doesn't wait for that to show — it supports the skin's own repair systems continuously, before repair becomes correction. Ten minutes of red and near-infrared light a day is that kind of investment: small, consistent, compounding.

It's why we're named the way we are: where light becomes longevity.

The design

Considered down to the last detail.

Lumière began with a clinical observation: results in light therapy come from consistent daily exposure, and consistency fails when a device is heavy, tethered, or tedious. So we shaped clinical optics into food-grade silicone that weighs almost nothing, curved the shell in three dimensions so light lands evenly across every contour of the face, and removed the cord entirely. Set the mode and timer from the wireless remote; the session ends itself. Ten minutes, precisely delivered.

I forget I'm wearing it
The silicone is so soft and light that the ten minutes just disappear — I read with my coffee while it runs. Every other mask I've tried felt like wearing a helmet. This one actually became a habit.

The laser is the game changer
I've owned two LED masks and never saw much. Four weeks in with the laser and the texture change around my eyes is the first thing I've ever been able to photograph. There's no comparison in how much light actually lands.

My med-spa results, at home
I was paying $250 a session for professional light treatments downtown. This feels like the same ritual — warm, quiet, clinical — except it's my bathroom, my robe, and it's already paid for itself.

Ten minutes with my coffee
It's the only step in my routine I never skip. Mask on, espresso, inbox — and it shuts itself off before I'm done reading. The wireless part matters more than I expected; I move around the whole time.

Comfortable enough to keep
The fit is the story here — it curves with my face, my eyes stay free, and my skin never overheats. I'd love a travel case option, but the mask itself is the most comfortable device I've used.

My esthetician noticed first
Six weeks of ten quiet minutes a morning and she asked what I'd changed. Brighter, more even, and the redness on my cheeks has calmed down. It genuinely feels like a professional treatment on my own schedule.
Maya S.·Seattle, WA
